Wild Things with Wings at the Brick Works. Brought to you by Seeds of Diversity, FoodShare, Evergreen, The David Suzuki Foundation. Eco-workshops by garden expert Lorraine Johnson, weed expert Dagmar Baur, the Beehive Collective, The Toronto Beekeepers Co-op, pollinator expert Laurence Packer, Seeds of Diversity's Bob Wildfong, and more. Native plants, urban naturalization, native bees, food security, ecosystem restoration. 10 am to 3 pm. 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Using native plants to attract bees: Learn how having natives in your yard will add a third dimension to your gardening activity as the birds, butterflies and bees move in to take advantage of the bounty you create for them.
1 p.m. - 2 p.m.Native plant seed starting: Learn the intricacies of starting native plant seeds in this interactive workshop, including the dormancy mechanisms of native seeds and how to pre-treat them for germination and health.
Followed by an evening at the Danforth Music Hall, 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Join Dr. David Suzuki with host Bob MacDonald of Quirks and Quarks, bee expert Dr. Laurence Packer, and celebrity gardener Marjorie Harris, for an informative and entertaining evening on native plants and pollinators. High Park Community Advisory Council - Volunteer Stewardship Program (VSP) Native Plant Sale. From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in front of the greenhouses just south of the Grenadier Cafe off Colborne Lodge Rd. Followed by a book launch "Rare Plants of the Endangered Black Oak Savannah, a VSP guidebook to this special environment in High Park" at 2:30 p.m. Nature Centre, 430 Parkside Drive (south of Bloor and Keele).
